Some people who sell them cheap want to help business you can use the help of AI and still provide a great website if you know what your doing. Yes some are absolutely slop but not everyone doing cheaper websites are, I do them cheaper and I do it to help small businesses keep up but mine are done right and gets my clients leads and bookings

Actually, you can’t have full control on a fully Ai generated website. I personally use WordPress. I control almost everything, not just designs and layouts but also database, backends, form collections… It’s not just the design but a structure that scales and sells for the company. A structure for a strong marketing system that serves the business goals.

I think the conversation needs to move away from “How cheap can you build a website?”

The better question is:

“What is this website supposed to do for the business?”

If it doesn’t help generate enquiries, bookings, calls, sales, or move people toward a clear next step, then it’s basically just an online brochure.

100% agree. A website shouldn’t just be a digital brochure. It needs to have a purpose — build trust, capture leads, and help turn visitors into customers. The design is important, but the strategy behind it is what really matters.

A billion posts a day about the same thing. People are big mad about a new technology and a market disruption. Some AI sites are slop, some are not. Hire somebody who makes nice sites, don’t worry about what tools they use.

Visitors want to see what they want to see to convert, depending on the objective of the site owner.

The “system” is called lead generation, which needs a website (or the very least a landing page). Websites need traffic, which would be SEO or advertising. Advertising, websites, and landing pages need copywriting. Copywriting needs salesmanship understanding. Salesmanship needs research, a product, and an offer. All of those need empathy, statistics, and alignment to create understanding of the customer.

I agree , building a website or graphic brochure design is cool and all but that’s not hitting your target audience or pulling audiences to your product or what your business offers. It gains visibility for sure but the traction behind that is much more complex than just doing that. Gaining traction and building relationships with other business , clients or consumers matter . Being in digital marketing there is always competition but you can tell who works hard on their work and who uses AI . Ai helps sure but every single flyer , post, website looks the same . That’s not hard work that’s copying . As a business student who’s still learning and as a digital marketing owner myself Im learning more more about this , and about how many acknowledge simplicity and more traction than just empty promises , copying AI same flayers and low sales .

This is the distinction I think gets lost. A website is a tool, not the business outcome. A beautiful $10,000 website that nobody finds and that doesn’t convert is still a bad investment.

Exactly. The first question should be “where is the business losing opportunities?” Sometimes the answer isn’t a new website at all, but better follow-up, booking, payments or automation around it.

Ranking is b*******. Most people want a website so they can print it on their business card and they don’t have to explain their entire business in a 2-hour sales call

Exactly. A website by itself doesn’t create much value if there’s no clear path for the visitor. Getting the right people to take the next step is what really matters.

True, goes both ways. All the people charging a ton for a website are missing the point, business owners want a system, not an expensive fancy website.

Thats what some of the business owners think they are getting. Thats why it is a bait and switch. A few prompts wont make a lead gen site. It wont write well researched copy. I have 13 years experience in this field. Marketing, lead gen, copywriting, ETC. I was one of the first people to be certified by Facebook to work in their Advertiser Support program. The guy who piloted their current 2nd level ad account management support program now is a good friend of mine. I was his copywriter for his agency for years. I currently manage projects and campaigns for one of the top rated seo companies in the world. Im certified in Command Prompt Engineering Specialization. If youre a developer you know that what youre giving away for free made in a day with a bunch of prompts is not what most business owners are expecting. If you don’t know then youre as naive as they are…because a well ranking website that is designed and written to generate leads and business takes months to develop before it starts to truly benefit the business EVEN with using AI. They would have to supplement it with PPC ads for traffic to Kickstart the lead gen process. And if you are not a copywriting strategist or a command prompt engineer with direct response copywriting knowledge your site, no matter how clean it looks, will still be AI slop to a major degree. I know because I have been paid to rewrite so many websites copy because it was written by a developer who isnt a copywriter or they used a generic AI prompt like 1000000 other “free” websites out there. Google looks at that shit and says “this aint going to help answer a user’s questions” and it never ranks or converts even if you somehow got it to the first page of google. Ive seen people use AI generated text on websites and spend a couple thousands a month on ads and get hardly no conversions. Its just sub par. Be mad if you want but its the absolute truth. Dont offer free stuff because youre devaluing your own work. Either we assume youre using AI slop or we assume you couldnt sell your own way out of a wet paper bag and should quit and go work as a developer at a company that already has clients, but unfortunately you’ll have to actually do the work. Claude cant magically turn you into a millionaire. It can help, but you have to actually know how to use it and for what.
